44. I disputed eight lines across the 40-package invoice, totaling $342.00 recoverable including fuel. The big one is tracking 728021438452: a $275 Oversize charge on a 60x18x16 carton that clears no Oversize trigger, longest side 60 inches, length plus girth 128 inches, and cubic volume of exactly 17,280 which is not greater than the 17,280 threshold. It does qualify for Additional Handling by dimension, so I claimed the difference net of the $32.75 that is properly due, $282.22 with fuel. Package 712578716716 was charged $32.75 Additional Handling with no trigger at all, and 716904962453 was charged the zone 3-4 rate on a zone 2 movement. Two residential charges were wrong: one on a commercial FedEx Ground delivery, and one billed at the $6.95 Express rate instead of the $6.45 Ground rate. Package 720564905121 was rated at 18 lb when its dimensional weight is 13 lb, 724827804451 carries the delivery area surcharge twice, and 732239346926 has fuel of $3.13 against a base that supports $2.79. What I could not verify is whether the destination ZIPs are actually on FedEx's delivery area lists, since those tables are not in this document set; every DAS amount and tier did match the shipper's own records, so I left them alone apart from the duplicate. Signature fees all matched a shipper request and the published amounts, and the remaining billed weights all reconciled to the dimensional or actual weight.

Findings

I audited all 40 packages against the shipper's carton and address records and the 2026 FedEx rules, and found eight billing errors worth $342.00 including fuel. The largest is a $275 Oversize charge on tracking 728021438452, a 60x18x16 in carton that meets no Oversize trigger (exactly 17,280 cubic inches, 128 in length plus girth) and should have carried only the $32.75 Additional Handling charge. Delivery area surcharge eligibility itself cannot be checked from the invoice because the FedEx DAS ZIP tables are not in hand, but every DAS amount and tier matched the shipper's own records, so none are disputed other than the duplicate on 724827804451.

What the agent assumes

• The shipper's order record is right about address type and the carton is right about dimensions and weight. A real audit would sample those against the warehouse scan before filing.
• Fuel applies to transportation plus the residential, delivery area, additional handling, and oversize surcharges, at the percentage in the invoice header. FedEx publishes the percentage weekly and this page does not fetch it.
• Delivery area eligibility and packaging material are not on an invoice. The agent is told so, and the right answer on those lines is a question, not a dispute.
• Transportation charges come from the site's synthetic rate table at roughly half of list, standing in for a contract. Surcharge amounts are the published 2026 figures with no discount, which is how most contracts leave them.
